It is a nice, straight line...but another set of easements, too. I guess other people's property just doesn't cost that much when you're on the right side of the <a href="http://madvilletimes.com/2011/01/hb-1177-too-late-to-block-eminent-domain-for-keystone-xl/" rel="nofollow">eminent domain lawsuits</a>.

Well, they always say the shortest route between two distances is a straight line. Keystone also has the advantage of Republican dominated state legislatures along the entire length of the proposed routes.

so, am I reading this correctly that the current drop in consumption of 2 million barrels/day actually exceeds what's imported from the Persian Gulf on a daily basis?

Now, would it be worth the risking the genesis of a few super-trolls for the sake of a weekly Profiles In Cowardice column dedicated to profiling the biggest jerks commenting anonymously on news sites? I'd like to say no, but I'd probably read such a column on a regular basis...

Whatever language you use the point is if you give non-technical users an incomplete idea (tool, service, app, platform, OS, et al) your adoption rate is going to suck. It's like a car with only the chassis, engine, and suspension (the platform); no one's going to buy it let alone use it even if it is free unless they're an auto-mechanic perhaps.

I agree because I think we're making essentially the same distinction about the role of specialized knowledge, but still prefer the tool/service language for two reasons:

1) I'm not a software developer, so I'm having trouble imagining what a platform is or does apart from its applications. Even Windows comes with a calculator, but even the calculator is an application rather than a glimpse of the platform itself, eh?
2) The tool/service language lends some dignity to the act of using bare bones waves to manage various text-only projects (like #3 & #4 above); dignifying that kind of correspondance helps set up an important comparison between waves, emails and letters as three iterations of the same process. But given the sub-critical number of adopters it is obvious that the pros and cons of this iteration of mail alone won't be enough to power the near-universal adoption synonymous with Google's name. (<a href="http://sharedspaces.googlelabs.com/sZyerMRT2N" rel="nofollow">Is universal adoption a reasonable goal for every Google product?</a>)
